A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union between two people; these days it is no longer required for the partners to be of the opposite sex. Whatever the background and history to marriage, it is still a legal union between two people; it is not recognized as complete until the marriage license is signed. The names bridegroom and bride extend around the world; once they are married they known as the wife and husband.

Weddings in a Church

There are many factors that can affect a wedding tradition and those of religion, race and social class for example, can make it very complicated. Many people, whether religious or not, still prefer to have a traditional ceremony performed by a recognized religious minister in a Church of their choice. The traditional white wedding as we know it is really only a service that is popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and some other Commonwealth countries.

Twin Ceremonies

Although unusual a double marriage is a where two couples are married at the same time; ceremonies such as this are usually instigated by siblings who like the idea of a simultaneous marriage.

Foreign Resort Weddings

These days it is easy for couples to arrange a wedding in another country and have the guests travel to them with the honeymoon continuing afterwards; whether this happens for an intimate beach ceremony in the Caribbean, or extravagant nuptials in Las Vegas, it will qualify as a destination wedding.
